Quote of the Day

"In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution." --Thomas Jefferson

ALWAYS keep in mind that the Constitution doesn't so much grant what the government may do as tell us what it MAY NOT do. It seems that a lot of our so called "representatives" in Washington have forgotten this fact...I think we should remind them of it in the next election.

Finally! A Politician that has really read the Constitution, and wants to conform to it ! You people in Vermont should consider giving Mr. Maslack a promotion and buck him up to the Congress or Senate, where he may be able to help the rest of the Nation regain it's roots.

Vermont State Rep. Fred Maslack has read the Second Amendment to the
U.S. Constitution as well as Vermont 's own Constitution very
carefully, and his strict interpretation of these documents is
popping some eyeballs in New England and elsewhere. Maslack
recently proposed a bill to register non-gun-owners and require them
to pay a $500 fee to the state. Thus Vermont would become the first
state to require a permit for the luxury of going about unarmed and
assess a fee of $500 for the privilege of not owning a gun. Maslack
read the "militia" phrase of the Second Amendment as not only
affirming the right of the individual citizen to bear arms, but as a
clear mandate to do so. He believes that universal gun ownership was
advocated by the Framers of the Constitution as an antidote to a
"monopoly of force" by the government as well as criminals

Vermont's constitution states explicitly that "the people have a
right to bear arms for the defense of themselves and the State" and
those persons who "conscientiously scrupulous of bearing arms" shall
be required to "pay such equivalent."
Clearly, says Maslack,
Vermonters have a constitutional obligation to arm themselves so
that they are capable of responding to "any situation that may
arise". Under the bill, adults who choose not to own a firearm
would be required to register their name, address, Social Security
Number, and driver's license number with the state. "There is a
legitimate government interest in knowing who is prepared to defend
the state should they be asked to do so". Maslack says Vermont
already boasts a high rate of gun ownership along with the least
restrictive laws of any state - it's currently the only state that
allows a citizen to carry a concealed firearm without a permit. This
combination of plenty of guns and few laws regulating them has
resulted in a crime rate that is the third lowest in the nation.

This makes sense! There is no reason why gun owners should have to
pay taxes to support police protection for people not wanting to own
guns. Let them contribute their fair share and pay their own way.

Mr. Maslack IS more historically accurate... ...many citizens opted to pay a "war tax", for someone to fight in their place, in both the Spanish-American and Civil Wars, rather than be conscripted themselves to fight for the US.

If you are not going to serve "in the Militia", then you SHOULD have to pay a "tax" to "hire someone to take your place", and "be armed for the State" on your behalf, if you choose not to serve.

Quotes of the Day

"Much of what government does is based on the premise that people can't do things for themselves. So government must do it for them. More often than not, the result is a ham-handed, bumbling, one-size-fits-all approach that leaves the intended beneficiaries worse off. Of course, this resulting failure is never blamed on the political approach -- on the contrary, failure is taken to mean the government solution was not extravagant enough." --columnist John Stossel

"What is most frightening about the political left is that they seem to have no sense of the tragedy of the human condition. All problems seem to them to be due to other people not being as wise or as noble as they are." --economist Thomas Sowell

A Term Limit with BITE

Here's an idea whose time may just have come; in North Carolina, congressional candidate Will Breazeale has made a $250,000 promise to the voters.

He has put up $250,000.00 of his own money into what he calls a "bonded term limit". The money is held out of his control by a third party (bonding company); if Mr. Breazeale holds office for more than three terms, the money is given to a charity(s) to be named by the company.

"I see [bonded term limits] bringing about the largest power shift in this country since we became a country," Breazeale in a telephone interview shortly after the press conference. "This will be the standard one day. If you don't put up personal net worth, then you will not be elected."

I wish I resided in N.C. just so I could work for this guy to get elected...now if I could find I need to find a candidate like him here in IN !

Our nation needs to return to the citizen legislatures expected by our Founders and retire the career politicians and their "overlord" type of politics, it is up to us, the Electorate, to ensure that this occurs, and soon. Tyranny inevitably follows any other course taken.

Oldest Profession?

A surgeon, and architect and an economist were traveling together, and fell to discussing which of them had the oldest profession.

The surgeon says “I think I can claim priority there. If you refer to the book of Genesis, it tells how God took one of Adam’s ribs to create Eve. So God was in fact the first surgeon.”

Then the architect says “Ah, but before he did that he created the heaven and the earth from chaos. That was the work of an architect.”

And the economist says “And who created chaos ?”

Quote of the Day

"Any veteran lending their name to promote the leftist propaganda of global warming and climate change, in an effort to control more of the wealth created in the U.S. economy, through cap-and-tax type policies, is a traitor to the oath he or she took to defend the Constitution of our great nation. If someone is advocating for our government to make statutory or regulatory changes in policy or enter into treaties that violate our Constitution, and they have taken an oath to uphold and protect that same document, then they are traitors to that oath." --Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (RPA)

To which I can only add: AMEN.

Veterans are like any other group; they have divergent opinions on almost everything, and that's as it should be, we became veterans to defend that ability to disagree, even with each other, BUT when there is a move to subvert our freedoms; indeed a move to join in treaties or policies inimical to our Constitution, it becomes every veterans duty to resist those actions with all the vigor at their disposal.

Congressman Metcalfe is being attacked by votevets.org, which is part of a Leftist coalition called Operation Free, which is tied to and funded by George Soros's group Moveon.org. I like to think think a large part of the members of votevets.org aren't even aware of these ties to Soros; to think otherwise is to admit that so many would knowingly and willingly betray their solemn oath's, and that is something I would rather not believe. The enemy within is deadlier than the enemy outside; the worse when that enemy has taken, and is abrogating, the same oath you took and believe in.

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

Sometime in life, we've all known someone like this....

1 Trevor, my assistant programmer, can always be found
2 hard at work in his cubicle. Trevor works independently, without
3 wasting company time talking to colleagues. Trevor never
4 thinks twice about assisting fellow employees, and he always
5 finishes given assignments on time. Often he takes extended
6 measures to complete his work, sometimes skipping
7 coffee breaks. Trevor is a dedicated individual who has absolutely no
8 vanity in spite of his high accomplishments and profound
9 knowledge in his field. I firmly believe that Trevor can be
10 classed as a high-calibre employee, the type that cannot be
11 dispensed with. Consequently, I truly recommend that Trevor be
12 promoted to executive management, and a proposal will be
13 executed as soon as possible.

Just How Bad is the Economy?

The economy is so bad that I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail.

It's so bad, I ordered a burger at McDonalds and the kid behind the counter asked, "Can you afford fries with that?"

The economy is so bad that CEO's are now playing miniature golf.

The economy is so bad if the bank returns your check marked "Insufficient Funds," you call them and ask if they meant you or them.

The economy is so bad Hot Wheels and Matchbox stocks are trading higher than GM.

McDonalds is selling the 1/4 ouncer.

Parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and learned their children's names.

A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico .

Dick Cheney took his stockbroker hunting.

Motel Six won't leave the light on anymore.

The Mafia is laying off judges

The economy is so bad that the .99 cent store is offering layaway

The economy is so bad Exxon-Mobil laid off 25 Congressmen.

And finally...

Congress says they are looking into this Bernard Madoff scandal...

Oh Great!! The guy who made $50 Billion disappear is being investigated by the people who made $1.5 Trillion disappear!

Get Your Hands Off My PTSD

A good friend of Beth's is the host of a great military group blog called A Soldiers Perspective. C.J. is an career soldier in the Army with years of combat experience in SO; as a result of his (some horrific, as any combat veteran can attest !) experiences, he suffers from PTSD (who WOULDN'T?)... The fact that he is dealing with this condition should be NOBODIES business but his own and his immediate family; if he discusses it with anyone else in the spirit of attempting to educate them about this condition; it should be lauded as an honorably unselfish act of educating that person above and beyond the call of duty.

The Army has come a long way of de-stigmatizing this condition in it's members, treating it as a reasonable and TREATABLE mental response to the extremely unreasonable and traumatizing events that occur on an almost daily in combat situations. HOWEVER, it seems that some segments of our society have become so pacifistic that they recoil in horror to think that anyone might have to cope with such a condition; imagining that people suffering from the condition are all open powder-kegs just waiting to be set off with the merest hint of anxiety.

Here are the basic facts:

1) The school district where C.J. sends his children go to school recently decided that they were going to institute a uniform dress policy in their district.

2) The authorities of the district held a Parents meeting to "get input from the parents on the new policy.

3) Said meeting, it turned out, was NOT to "gather input", but rather an authoritarian statement that:

A. the new policy would be instituted at the start of the next semester.

B. that the policy wasn't merely a set guideline policy, ( I.E. "students would be required to wear blue slacks and white shirts") but a policy that the students would be required to wear a school uniform only available at a certain supplier (at a cost of somewhere in the neighborhood of $300.00 per student for a couple of complete sets of uniforms).

Now C.J. is NOT adverse to the idea of a uniform policy, he wears his own uniform proudly every single working day of his life; what he objected to was being told that, with less than 40 days notice, he would be obligated to lay out $600 to $700 in clothing to equip all of his children with said uniforms to meet the new criteria. Believing the meeting to be a two way exchange of information; he spoke up, requesting that the implementation of the policy be delayed until the start of the next school year so as to allow the many military families with children attendant at the school the time to budget for the new expense. He was told that that "just wasn't feasible", and of course he wanted to know WHY that it wasn't -- loudly the second or third time he was rebuffed from being given an answer. His objections were supported by a large portion of the parents present and the meeting ended in somewhat of a tense atmosphere, to say the least...
If only that was the end of the story... the next day C.J.'s children were called out of class and questioned about "that man that had made such a fuss" and it was discovered that C.J. wrote for a blog; the officials read the blog and discovered that C.J. had been diagnosed with P.T.S.D., whereupon said officials grew mightily afraid, and have started proceedings to have C.J. legally barred from entering the school without having security escort him, and called his commanding officer to inform him that they consider him a "danger", possibly even to his own children...a great fuss to make because he reasonably objected to being dictated to by an unelected bunch of bureaucratic "education experts" issuing their DIKTATS to the unwashed minions over which they feel they have authority.

The fact that they contacted C.J.'s military commanders and informed them that "he has P.T.S.D. and therefore is unstable/dangerous" is just so far beyond the pale in intruding on C.J's privacy as to be in the stratosphere. To possibly try to threaten his career or even his parenting role over a school policy disagreement is out to the orbit of Saturn in it's ignorance and pettiness.

That, in this case, these ultra metro-sexual, "sheepdog" fearing, patchouli smelling, (presumably)Democrat voting assholes are members of the so-called "professional educators" cadre (who are presumably highly educated to know better) makes that attitude even more offensive to any correct thinking human being.

C.J. is contacting a lawyer to see what options he might have, but it's too bad he has to go to that extent, and I hope there are enough of us out there that, like me, will be willing to help support him in whatever manner we can in this tempest in a school teapot. The issues involved are a microcosm of what is wrong in our nation today; overreaching mini-tsars trying to dictate our freedom to dissent and our privacy...always "for our own good" of course, and in a "WE'RE the PROFESSIONALS, so we know what's best" manner.
