Steyn hits another one

Mark Steyn hits another one out of the ballpark. Europe is a lost cause, despite the fact that there are indications that the Dutch, at least, are waking up to the danger they are facing.

I fear that the inertia of the Continent as a whole will preclude an easy reversal of that danger however. The United States has come to Europe's rescue twice in the last hundred years, and we have continued to assure Europes liberty for the last sixty years, leading them into a sense of complacency; this time, it should be up to the Europeans to extricate themselves. They have to come to the realization that freedom ISN'T free, and not depend on outside forces to pay the costs.

It's Bush's Fault!!!

Yes, another domino seems to have fallen in the Arab world, and it's ALL BUSH'S FAULT!

To which I say; Bravo, Mr. President!

The Left keeps asking "was it worth the American lives lost to free Iraq?" without acknowledging that Iraq was merely a part of a larger stradegy in the Middle East, one which seems to starting to bear fruit.

The final results are by no means certain, indeed, they will not be known for at least another generation, but if they continue as they are, I believe that, Yes Virginia, those men and women sacrificed to the final measure in a worthy cause.

We must stay the course and continue to fight the good fight so that the gains garnered by those sacrifices will not be thrown away.

"useful Idiots"

I told a commenter in an earlier thread that Joseph Stalin had a term for those that didn't have a loyalty to their society as a whole, and the term was "useful idiots". Well, it seems that even former Presidents and First Ladies can fall into that category.
I don't believe that the Carters were aware of any wrongdoing involved with their charitable orginization, much less had an active hand in promulgating that wrongdoing, but the fact remains that they didn't keep a close enough eye on what was happening through the ageis of their good works.

In dealing with people such as Saddam Hussein, it behooves the people dealing with him to expend extra vigilence in those dealings to ensure that they truly do meet the expectations put upon them, and not used as a cover for the graft and perfidity that Saddam dealt in as a matter of course. It seems that the Carters fell into the "the UN sanctions it, so it MUST be on the up and up" trap. It also serves as yet another example of the corruption filled cesspool that the UN has become.

That the specific donations were legal and (hopefully) put to good use doesn't negate the broader taint of corruption and influence peddleing that they helped to engender. "useful idiots" indeed!

Fiber Optic Fence?

It seems that new technology in the fiber optics field may prove to be the solution to securing large areas of our southern border. Should the testing of the system prove it to be as efficacious as it is believed it will be, I hope that it will be deployed in the shortest time possible. It's far past time that we get serious about the integrity of our borders.

LCpl Kyle Renehan U.S.M.C honored.

One of my favorite Jarheads, Brandon Strassler, sent me this story of a ceremony dedicating a classroom to LCpl Kyle Renehan. (click on the second story to view details)

A training room at the Air Traffic Control (ATC) School aboard NAS Pensacola was dedicated to the memory of LCpl Renehan, who died in Iraq on December 9, 2004 as the result of a morter attack on his position.

After the ceremony, RenehanÂ’s father said, "ItÂ’s special. He will live on down here with everyone who goes through here. The family wanted to find a way to keep his name alive, and this will help."

Judge Orders Schiavo's Feeding Tube to Remain for Three Weeks

Breaking from NewsMax.com

Supporters of Terri Schiavo's right to life scored a big victory late
Friday when a Florida judge ordered her feeding tube to remain for an
additional three weeks.

"Pinellas Circuit Court Judge George Greer made his decision after
pleadings from the woman's parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, that they
need more time to pursue additional medical tests which might prove their
daughter has more mental capabilities than previously thought." the AP
reported.

The judge's stay will remain until March 18. But the legal battle to
keep Terri alive is far from over.

Fla. Governor Jeb Bush has also ordered the state to investigate
allegations Schiavo has been abused or mistreated. The state is reportedly
seeking a 60-day delay in removal of the feeding tube.

Terri's father Robert is leading the legal effort to save his daughter.
He has set up a legal defense fund. He needs your help.

You can help him by Going Here Now

Here's yet another example of the barbaric Iranian "legal" system at work.

Tell me again Moonbats, how we should "negotiate" with people such as these?!
And don't give me a lot of blather about "cultural differences", some things are just WRONG, no matter what the culture.

Ward Churchill -- Artist?

Michelle Malkin has an interesting post on the "art" of Ward Churchill, the embattled CU professor.

Yet another indication of just how much of a fraud this man is. He's a "native American" who isn't an Indian, a tenured professor that has no real academic credentials of any true value, and now, it appears he's an "artist" that copies others work as his own.

Just how much does it take for CU to say "ENOUGH" and remove this stain on their academic integrity?

Fisk 2

After haveing read the Cluebat™ being laid upside the head of a moonbat in the post below, I thought I would again try my own hand with one of my own commenters....I didn't do as good a job, but still, it was cathartic.

"I had to put on my tinfoil hat reading your analysis of the world and
incessant insults about how we progressives don't live in the real world"

Glad to see you admit to having your own TFH, thats the first step to recovery.
Those weren't insults, merely observations borne out time and again by reality.

"then again, it was you people who said 9/11 and iraq were related and
it turns out that every senior counterterrorist expert said that was a
stretch and it was never fully vetted"

Salmon Pak shows the fallacy of that statement. I never made a claim that Saddam had any part in the planning of 9/11, in fact, I'm sure he didn't, but that there were ongoing connections of training facilities and money paid to terrorist organizations there was never any doubt. Saddam was the main backer for the payments to the families of suicide bombers of Hamas.

"you said he had WMDs"

He did, and he used them. He failed to account for their destruction as required by the terms of the cease fire of GW 1. It's possible that the large amount of truck traffic between Iraq and Syria may account for not finding some of those weapons. Saddam had 12 years to hide them, or transport them into any of the countries around Iraq. We may never know.

"not one iota of evidence has ever survived scrutiny beyond your talking
points memos and bullshit repeats of Bush administration exagerations"

Yet you will believe OBVIOUSLY falsified documents as proof over vetted documented records as "proof" of Bush being an "AWOL" Pot, meet kettle.

"you guys said it would cost us $12 to $30 billion at the most and we
would be drawing down troops by september 2003"

Funny, thats the first I've heard those claims...The only thing I ever heard President Bush say was that it would cost what it would cost, and that we would stay until the job was done.
The FIRST formal budget request to Congress was for $87B....as memory serves...kinda blows that $12 to $30 B figure out of the water doesn't it?

"instead we are caught in a sandpit that has cost us upwards of $300
billion and the cost of twelve wounded and three dead americans a day"

The cost is indeed staggering, both in treasure and, even more importantly, in lives. But I believe that history will judge it as being something that had to be done.

"you said the tax cuts would creat jobs"

A gratuitious statement may be gratuitiously denied. The tax cuts have done more to help stabilize the economy than any other actions could have. I DO believe that President Bush has been severly remiss in not cutting spending to a far greater extant also. Hopefully, that will be a feature of his second term, although I'm not at all sanguine that it will be.

"we are STILL minus 500,000 jobs in the hole"

Check the latest figures from the BLS. We have reached the point where we now have 1,500 MORE jobs than when President Clinton left office...considering a recession that started in the last two quarters of President Clintons last term, and the major hit to the economy attendant on 9/11, thats not that bad.

"our allies have abandoned us,"

Yeah, France, Russia, and Germany...who have been revealed to have been reaping millions in under the table oil deals with Saddam.

With "allies" like that, we don't really need any enemies, do we?

England,Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, etc, etc (even TOGO) have a contigent in the coallition. I guess we know who are TRUE allies are now, don't we?

"oil is $45 a barrel"

Wait a minute, I thought the war was all about "stealing the oil" (disregarding the fact that had we wished cheap oil, Saddam would have been more than happy to sell it to us in return for our looking the other way) If the war was about stealing the oil, WHERE IS IT? The facts show another example of Leftist "truth" being a false meme. WE have no control over the price of oil, OPEC is the major player in that game, so if you don't like the price, go bitch at them.

"over 3 million more Americans have joined the poverty list since Bush
has been in power"

Source please? Much of that figure is due to a change in the way the poverty level is indexed, not as a result of that many people actually experiencing a change in their way of life or gross income. The MIDDLE class in France lives under conditions that WE consider poverty level.

"The US last year ranked 42nd in the world in infant mortality, right
behind Cuba"

Wait a minute, I thought it was a Progressive tenant that Cuba was a workers paradise with the best health care in the world? Which is it? If they were worse, they aren't the best are they? As far as the US figures go, they are a little misleading. We have a far greater number of high risk pregnancies which go to term and the highest number of high risk premies born here than anywhere else in the world, and would not be counted in the infant mortality rates in other countries...those babies would never have made it anywhere near to term anywhere else in the world. But the attendant risks that go along with such "miracle" babies are higher than the norm and artificially inflate the US numbers; it's comparing apples and pears.

"(BTW thanks for telling us the project for New American century plan
for attacking everyone who has oil.)"

Your own conspiracy theories are coming out in that statement...

"at the end of the day, none of this combat has achieved a godamned
thing but kills tens of thousands"

No, it has freed two countries from under the rule of homicidal tyrants and given them a chance at a freedom never known in the region before. As Robert Heinlein once said, "Freedom is the one human "right" that is seldom cheap and never free".

"my guess is- you have never lived outside the US. You have a high
school education- you listen to Rush and Faux News"

Didn't bother to look at my banner did you? And you accuse ME of making fallacious arguments about prograssives not living in the real world? I have been in 38 states and 7 different countries, lived in the Netherlands for 3 years and in Germany for almost two. I have 2 years of College but never stayed for a degree, but I would put my general knowledge up against any recent college graduate. They would cream me in the technical areas of their expertise, I HOPE... How about YOUR creds? By the number of typos I corrected in your missive, I do have to wonder. I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh, I find him to be too much of a blowhard. And I don't have cable, so I CAN'T watch Fox news.

"You bet, you're a dumb-ass"

Hmmm...Must be that vaunted Progressive tolerance I've heard so much about!

"and you're wrong"

Said the one wearing the Tin Foil Hat...

"by the way, the Netherlands has a higher standard of living than the
US, higher productivity, longer life spans, less poverty and almost one
tenth our crime rate- also, the typical Dutch 7th grader knows more
american history than a US Senior."

BWHAAAAHAAAAAA! I WANT some of what you're smoking! I have a great many family members living in the Netherlands that would certainly get a great laugh out of those statements! The U.S. has the highest productivity rate in the world, the mortality rates are roughly equivilent. You can't compare poverty rates between a socialist and a capitalist system, but believe ME, having lived there, the standard of living is much greater on the average here. Many of the crimes in the Netherland are never even reported, as the populace knows that the likelihood of prosecution is remote, in fact, many times the reported crimes are merely noted and not ever investigated. Education is the one area in which I feel you may be correct. Thanks to the last 20/30 years of the NEA meddling in our public school system.

"What else do you want to be wrong about?"

How about the fact that I thought you might have something credible to contribute?

Tribute to a Hero

Here is a picture of the wreath that will be placed on the grave of Sgt Adam Plumondor U.S. Army. from the Nation of Riflemen, of which I consider myself a proud member.

The leaf body is Laurel, to signify a Champion, The flowers are Yellow Roses, to signify one of the Colors of the Regiment, and to remind us that Adam waits for us, now, and so to remind us to our duty as he did his. The Ribbons are White, to signify the purity of the Honor and Devotion to Duty of this man of men. The words inscribed theron are Gold, to signify that no higher Honor may be expressed.

UPDATE: Riverdog attended the Memorial Service for Adam and two other members of the Stryker Brigade,SGT. Frank Hernandez, 2nd Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment and SPC Clinton Gertson, 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment. He has some photos of the catafalques of the fallen being honored; and a description of the ceremony that was so simple and yet so complete that it made you feel you were there as you were reading it.

Thank You for being our eyes and ears, from all of us who couldn't go to the Final Farewell, Major Schneider.

Pecking Order

A farmer goes out one day and buys a brand new stud rooster for his
chicken coop.

The new rooster struts over to the old rooster and says, "OK old fart, time for you to retire."

The old rooster replies, "Come on, surely you cannot handle ALL of
these chickens. Look what it has done to me. Can't you just let me have
the two old hens over in the corner?"

The young rooster says, "Beat it: You are washed up and I am taking over."

The old rooster says, "I tell you what, young stud. I will race you around
the farmhouse. Whoever wins gets the exclusive domain over the entire
chicken coop."

The young rooster laughs. "You know you don't stand a chance old man.
So, just to be fair I will give you a head start."

The old rooster takes off running. About 15 seconds later the young
rooster takes off running after him. They round the front porch of
the farmhouse and the young rooster has closed the gap. He is already
about 5 inches behind the old rooster and gaining fast. The old rooster looks
over his shoulder, sees the youngster gaining on him, and really puts on
some speed...

The farmer, meanwhile, is sitting in his usual spot on the front porch
when he sees the roosters running by. He grabs his shotgun and - BOOM - he
blows the young rooster to bits. The farmer sadly shakes his head and says, "Dammit ... third gay rooster I bought this month."

Moral of this story ... Don't mess with the OLD FARTS - age and treachery
will always overcome youth and skill!

Mamamontezz sent me this to post on her site. I have done so and would request that you go on over to Slaglerock's and wish him your best. While seemingly a "posh" posting, I believe that there may be some surprises in the road ahead.

That's OK, he can more than handle anything that may be thrown his way. He's a tough little M-F, even if he is "only" a Zoomy.

Military Families

In the support and kudos we (rightfully) give our servicemen and women, there is an all but forgotton component of service life, and that is the families of these extraordinary people. Here is the story of one Marine wife and mother.

I would echo tim Chaves's statement when he writes:

And we should be proud of those on the home front who make the heroics in Iraq possible. Schools, civic groups and places of worship should take the time to boost the morale of these families — by letting the children know how much we appreciate them letting their daddies and mommies protect us, and letting the wives and husbands know their struggle is equally heroic.

We will win the war on terror because there is a Colleen on the home front standing behind every Mark in Iraq and Afghanistan. And that support lets daddies fight and sacrifice so other kids can be free.

We can never forget that a lot of the hero's involved with the services don't even serve in uniform themselves. They fight the daily battle of "normal living",not the guns and bombs of a vicious enemy. They fight this battle alone and with a level of courage equal to any seen on the battlefield, and all too often are forgotten as being major contributors to the war effort.

Assault with a Deadly....Rubber Band?

OH NO!!! The HORROR! A student run amok attacked his teacher and threatened her with serious bodily harm! Whats a poor school system to do? Give him a ten day suspension while preparing expulsion procedings of course!

The crime? a seventh grader tossed a rubber band on the teachers desk when she requested that he take it off his wrist and give it to her.....I am shocked! SHOCKED I tell you! HOW could this young man have gone SO WRONG at such a young age?

The charge? Assault with a weapon intended to do bodily harm (he could have put the teachers eye out!)

The punishment? The student was charged with a level four offense -- the highest Level at the school. Other violations that also receive level 4 punishment include arson, assault and battery, bomb threats and explosives, according to the Code of Student Conduct.

John Gomez (AHA! must be a member of a violent Latino gang!/sarcasm off) (had to throw that in, after all, Moonbats KNOW how racist we evil right wing types are!) has been suspended for ten days, pending an investigation and an expulsion hearing.

This is yet another demonstration of the state to which our Public School system Indoctrination Centers have sunk.

I hope that young master Gomez's mother takes to the courts and stikes a good blow for the return of common sense. This is one time that the courts should be used, if the school officials persist in this idiocy.

PC, zero tolerance and a general lack of common sense seem to be the rule rather than the exception of the day.

Until that common sense returns, it behooves all parents that can, to
home school or avail themselves of a private school.

It's too bad that more parents aren't in that level of ability/affluance to do so. After all, the State needs those taxes to provide for the drones that can't seem to do anything for themselves anymore but protest what a raw deal they have in life, and can't Nanny be more generous?

RECTUM STRETCHER

While she was "flying" down the road yesterday (10 miles over the limit), a

woman passed over a bridge only to find a cop with a radar gun on the other

side lying in wait.

The cop pulled her over, walked up to the car, and with that classic
patronizing smirk we all know and love, asked, "What's your hurry?"

To which she replied, "I'm late for work."

"Oh yeah," said the cop, "what do you do?"

"I'm a rectum stretcher," she responded.

The cop stammered, "A what? A rectum stretcher? And just what does a rectum

stretcher do?"

"Well," she said, "I start by inserting one finger, then I work my way up
to two fingers, then three, then four, then with my whole hand in. I work
from side to side until I can get both hands in, and then I slowly but
surely stretch, until it's about 6 feet wide."

"And just what the hell do you do with a 6 foot asshole?" he asked.

"You give him a radar gun and park him behind a bridge..."

Traffic Ticket $95.00
Court Costs. $45.00
The Look on Cop's face .... PRICELESS.
