Sadness on the Holiday

Photobucket

R.I.P. ASIA 1995 - 2008

It is with great sadness that I have to announce a death in the family.

It causes no less grief that it was one of the animal members.

When BethA got home from work she checked on her beloved companion of the last twelve years, a great Tuxedo cat named Asia. Asia hadn't felt well for the last several days, but at 2300 Hrs tonight he took a turn for the worse and we decided to take him to the local 24 hr Vet hospital to try to see if there was anything to be done.....two x-rays and a period of time in an oxygen tank later, it was determined the he was in heart failure, and although there was a course of treatment to be given; it was to the tune of $2500.00 for the initial course and continuing treatments that could only delay the inevitable, with no guarantee that the quality of his life would be anywhere near pain free.

So at 0315 hrs this morning the Vet sent our beloved Asia into a comfortable eternal sleep. Beth was holding him in her arms as he passed and it was peaceful.

I am not a cat person by any means but I was hard put to hold it together for Beth's sake, We have lost a true friend and close companion.

It may be difficult for non-pet people to understand, but it truly is like the loss of an immediate family member.

Still, when I count my blessings when sitting down for the Thanksgiving feast, I will be grateful that we did the right thing and put Asia out of his pain.

1 I am sorry Bert and Beth..I have lost pets in the past and have one now that will not last much longer. Our animals are family and it does hurt to lose them.

2 So sorry Bert for you and Beth , they are family when you have had them that long, it's been almost 3 years and we still miss our dog. The neighbor's cat adopted me and I haven't seen him since Monday, an outdoor cat, he would come over and be underfoot all day outside, good company too, the neighbor called and asked if he was here, I told him no, I fear the Coyotes have gotten him.
