It's people like "SASless" that are the bearers of the real American spirit. As long as we have enough people like him, this country will survive the "useless idiots" that seem to be incapable of doing anything more than railing against the darkness and trying to blame everyone that doesn't join them in their theatrical display of anguish.
I put the entire post under the fold just to preclude any chance of losing the link, but I would prefer that you read it at the original site so that you could add your own thoughts where SASless might see them.
Here's just a taste:
"Overall, I cannot do justice to all the good I saw today just by writing. I wanted to try though. Basically, the operation set up down there at the New Orleans Airport is one eerily similar to that of Baghdad Int'l airport when I was there for over eight months. Just a hive of activity with people pushing their bodies and aircraft to the max. No one complains, they just
get the job done and worry about the rest later.
Every citizen of this country should be so proud of what their fellow citizens are doing for each other. The pressure they are working under knowing these sick and stranded people do not have time on their side is unexplainable. Our country is one great strength and determination.
It is evident in all the rescue and relief efforts that are taking place down there. If the hard work and pure grit of all the rescue and medical personnel I witnessed today are of any indication of the eventual outcome of this indescribable tragedy, then we are on the absolute fast track to victory."

And I'm proud to say that a hometown hero, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, and his brother Eli, of the New York Giants, were in Baton Rouge over the weekend distributing more than 14kt of emergency supplies, including diapers and bottled water.
I would ask one thing to those that say the media ISN'T biased against President Bush and take note of the coverage given between those that have nothing but Bushhate, and those like Travolta and Peyton that have rolled up their sleeves and contributed in MEANINGFUL ways to the relief efforts.
In the meantime, I give my utmost respect for these public people that have the means, and are using them for the greater good.

Leighton Levy
I disagree with Mr. Levy, although I can see how he may get that impression as an outsider looking in. I would posit that it is not race that is the determining factor, but the attitude; an attitude engendered by generations of people that have existed on the government largesse provided in a misguided attempt to provide an equality of outcome not merited by an inequality of effort. An attitude that government is there to provide for their every need or want.
The largess doesn't provide true equality of outcome, a fact most obvious to the recipiants, but it's just enough to provide for an artificial civility as long as the level is sufficient to exist fairly well without much effort, with the threat of loss of that largesse if you don't toe the government line. So what happens when government breaks down? You see the anarchy that prevails in New Orleans.
The news is all focused on New Orleans, but the fact is that there are areas that have been even harder hit by Hurricane Katrina, and the people in those areas aren't rioting/looting/robbing on anywhere near the scale we've seen in the city.
They are too busy trying to survive, and helping their neighbors to survive, to be out scouting for a new plasma screen tv.
Many of these people are just as poor and just as Black, the difference is, they have a sense of individual worth, not governmental dependence.

Chief Justice William Renquist has passed on to the Greatest Court in existance, may he be judged as he judged, and get a good seat on the Court.
Mr. President, I pray that you can also have the judgement to replace Jusice Renqist with a suitable replacement, both for the Chief Justice's position, but also for the new vacant seat.
For those interested, Here is a biography of Chief Justice William H. Rehquist. He served his country both long and admirably, may his family find comfort that he is no longer in pain; he was called serve on a Higher Court.

Update: How long does it take the Loony Left to start smearing the name of a dead Republican? In this case, 2 hours, 44 minutes.
CJ Renquist hadn't even arrived at the funeral home before Alan Dershowitz began the screed of "Activist Republican Thug"...be interesting to see who takes up the torch and carries it on from there.
