Seems that 1st Lt. William “Eddie” Rebrook IV had been badly injured by an IED, and in the course of his battlefield treatment, his Kevlar armor had been removed and burned as a biohazard. But since that fact wasn't noted in the action report of the treatment, he was required to pay $700. for it's replacement as he was being processed for a medical discharge.
It was ever thus, the rear echelon always follows the letter of the law, irregardless of the law's intent, or the extenuating circimstances attendant on some losses. This is an example of poor leadership in Lt. Rebrook's Bn. structure; his CO could have filed for an exception, and SHOULD have.
But it wouldn't have looked "right" on the record, and so, once again, the common grunt is left holding the bag.
It makes me wonder sometimes just how we get the best men and women that we DO to serve, when the middle layers of the command structure are more concerned with paperwork and appearences rather than what is best for the troops, especially troops that have sacrificed so much, physicaly and mentally.
The Army, and the Nation, owe Lt. Rebrook an apology. I tender mine here.
LT. REbrook, Thank you for your service, and I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors. You did your duty, and I am ashamed that you were subjected to this travesty of injustice.

Expose the Left has the video, should you wish to torment yourself with viewing Idiotarian Idiocy at it's most strident.
Only the RADICAL Left would turn a funeral into a political rally and feel no shame in doing so.
Jimmy Carter has shown his true colors yet again, and any iota of respect I may have held for him as a man (I never had ANY for him as a President) got wiped away with his totally inappropiate message. "Old Joe" was bad, but face it, he's hardly a household figure; for Mr. Carter to bloviate as he did was the height of political hubris that ill reflected the Democratic Party in it's current form.

360 days have passed since you promised America to sign your Form 180 and release all of the information surrounding your discharge from the United States Navy....
So WHEN are you going to do it Mr Kerry? If you want to pontificate on the honesty of another, you should be willing to demonstrate your own qualifications as a truth teller.
H/T to Wild Thing for the reminder, and the photo

The Winchester was the "rifle that won the West", and although the name may go on, a Belgian,Japanese, or Portugese product isn't the real thing. All the old style models will be discontinued, including the venerable model 94, arguably the finest rifle ever made. For those of you lucky enough to own one of these fine products of the armorers art, HOLD ON TO THEM. They are going to treble in worth in March. I had hoped to own a Model 94 one day, but with the coming price rise, that will never occur.

From the link above:
The picture shows a sad little boy, with a turbaned man next to him, a little bit further from the camera, amid the ruins of a house. Other men and boys peer in from the background. The photo is captioned:
“Pakistani men with the remains of a missile fired at a house in the Bajur tribal zone near the Afghan border.”
The story it accompanies is about the apparently failed attempt to take out al QaedaÂ’s #2 man al Zawahiri, with a missile attack from a Predator drone.
“How sad!” readers are encouraged to think. “These poor people are on the receiving end of awful weapons used by the clumsy minions of Bush. And all to no avail. Isn’t it terrible? Why must America do such horrible misdeeds? Bush must go!”
Anyone that had a passing aquaintence with military ordnance would immedietly identify the "remains of a missile fired from a Predator drone" as either a 152 or 155 MM artillery shell....a "dud' artillery shell, from the rifleing grooves on the body of the shell.
Seems that those vaunted "layers of fact checkers and editors" fell down on the job...AGAIN.
So..a photo is staged to give the impression of inept military action (American, that is) and to cast the opponents in a sorrowful light of the poor innocent victims of same. The action was real; there was a purported gathering of Al Quida operatives in the three houses struck by MISSILES, but the photo was fake, and presented in such a way to denigrate our soldiers. It was another case of "fake, but true" method of trying to shape public opinion..
It might have worked better if just one of those fact checkers knew the difference between their own black holes of ego driven agenda driven "reporting" and a blast hole from a 155MM shell.
Just incidentally..it appears that the shell has a fuse still attached, so anyone within ten yards of that shell was playing high explosive Russian roulette...no doubt that Bush would have been blamed for that as well..
Hey Achmed, hit that with a hammer!

All I can say is I sincerely hope that both defendants get the maximum penalty allowed by law.
Given my choice, they would be held for life in a sealed cell that was flooded twice a day, just to the point where they could drown....good thing the Constitution has that little prohibition from "cruel and unusual punishment" to protect slime like this from people like me....good that I'm protected from sinking to their level.

Progressives are constantly trying to blame the US and/or "Western Culture" as the cause of the conflict, yet the Islamofacists themselves make no such claims.
They state their end goal clearly enough, as well as continually demonstrate their willingness to commit any act of atrocity in furthurance of that goal:
"Second, install sharia (Islamic law) on the entire Earth and spread Islamic justice there (...). The attacks will not cease until after the victory of Islam and the setting up of sharia," he swore.~Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (emph. mine D)
HOW'S THIS for "hate speech"?:
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, said in an audio tape put onto the Internet Sunday that rockets had been fired at Israel from Lebanon last month "on the instructions" of the network's overall chief Osama bin Laden.
"The rocket firing at the ancestors of monkeys and pigs from the south of Lebanon was only the start of a blessed in-depth strike against the Zionist enemy"
These are the people that Cindy Sheehan considers "freedom fighters"?!?
Also interesting to note:
"Zarqawi also said the guerrillas had carried out nearly 800 operations against "the crusader forces" since the occupation of Iraq, putting "crusader" casualties at around 40,000 soldiers."
Funny, I thought we had only lost 2038 ? Not to make light of those that paid the ultimate cost of freedom, but thats quite a discrepancy; between 2038 and 40,000....maybe it's some new form of Islamic math?

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen

If you aren't ashamed to do this, please pass this on.
Jesus said, " If you are ashamed of me," I will be ashamed
of you before my Father."
Not ashamed. Passing this on.

Not according to the Gay and Lesbian Advocates & Defenders(GLAD) in Mass.
Gay marriage was "legalized" by a landmark court known as Goodridge v. Dept. of Public Health in 2003. It ended "discrimination" in marriage by judicial fiat.
A number of citizens were incensed at this ruling and decided to request a ballot initiative be placed on the ballot calling for an amendment to the Mass. state constitution banning same sex marriage. Sounds like the American way, doesn't it? Letting the citizenry of a state decide what they will and will not allow in their state? Not according to GLAD. They contend that the citizens of the state can not constitutionally initiate any sort of plebacite to reverse a judicial ruling, that it can only originate from within the legislature. The REAL horror here is that they may be legally correct...Mass.'s constitution does seem to contain such a stricture. In other words, the people of the state have no voice in public policy question other than that which can be induced by one of their elected representatives. That seems to be reasonable on it's face...after all , that's why we elect representatives, to ensure that the will of the people is carried out in an orderly. measured manner, but it's discounting the fact that in todays PC world, it's the loudest minority that seems to get the most attention from the political class, and that class can be cowardly when faced with accusations of not being PC by an ultravocal minority, with the possible subsequent loss of their seats if they don't buckle to the pressure.
Seems to me that the good people of Mass. need to have TWO Constitutional reform referendums placed on the ballot in 2008. When enough people are dissatisfied with the current trend of major issues, it seems to me that it would be within their basic rights to attempt to redress those grievences with a public referendum. If they lose, fine, the people have made their voice known. But that isn't what GLAD believes. They KNOW that their position would be a hard fought one,and one where they could very possibly lose, and so would rather rely on the decision of one man in a black robe to press their agenda forward, no matter what the people may believe, and they're perfectly willing to stack the deck to ensure that the people will have no real voice in the matter.
That is could even be "legally" possible to do so points out to a flaw in the state constitution. But what else would you expect from a state that would continually re-elect an alcoholic manslaughterer to it's senior Senate seat position?

What to do? Slash government expenses and have a possible layoff of 20% of state employees...oh, and remodel offices in the statehouse to the tune of $564,838...
Officials claimed that they feared that they would be successfully sued if they canceled the remodeling contract, bidded 30 days before Katrina hit....Riiiiiiiiight.
Gov. Blanco, I hope you enjoy your new Swedish granite countertops, frosted glass and plasma tv screens in your new offices as much as you can, I certainly hope that the people of Louisianna have enough common sense to ensure that you won't be able to do so after the next election.

Seems I have a new site to add as a "daily read"...
Just to remind all of you what is at stake here, I think the following quote covers it quite nicely:
"We stand here on the only island of
freedom that is left in the whole world.
There is no place left to flee to ...
no place to escape to. We defend
freedom here or it is gone. There is no
place for us to run, only to make a stand.
And if we fail, I think we face telling our
children, and our children's children, what
it was we found more precious than freedom.
Because I am sure someday --
if we fail in this --
there will be a generation that will ask."
~Ronald Reagan

As I've said before, NOBODY weilds the Cluebat™ more effectively than Odysseus does.
He should be considered a national asset.
Update: On the post above, I left a comment responding to another commenter that had asked, in essence, why we blame the democrats for the administrations seeming lack of a responce to events in Iran, when Republicans hold both chambers and the White House. I put forth the idea that the CONSTANT partisan screeds/memes aimed at every action President Bush has taken in the last 5 years may be one (large) part of the reason why the response has been lackluster. I furthur contended that the Democrats still hold the power with the MSM, and that the media is the single greatest influance on public opinion. I contend that, taking Iraq as an example, the media has either chosen not to report any story favorable to the administration, or has spun an adimitedly bad event in such a way as to make it even worse, with the blame being placed at President Bush's feet. Here is an example of non-reporting...ever hear of Paul Ray Smith?
He is the first, and so far ONLY winner of the CMH in the occupation of Iraq. The ONLY news entity to report on the presentation of the award ceremony was CBS, and even with them, it was only deemed worthy as a one time sound bite, and was only shown because the viewers chose it from among three options. (guess CBS miscalculated the public's interest when they provided the option..)
Every war needs it's heroes. War is a desperate, dirty business that requires the full support of the public at home, if it has a chance of being successful, and honoring heroes is a part of maintaining that public support at the levels needed, like it or not, thats a fact of life. By not allowing any heroes to be widely acknowledged, the MSM is helping to choke off that support when it is most critcally needed....and I believe that this is being conciously done in furthurance of a partisian (Democratic) agenda.

There are only a finite resources availible from the public purse, and in the end, as we've seen in every place it's practiced, that financial fact leads to a rationing of services. It begins with long waits for what are now common procedures, and ends with refusal of treatment for those that the state deems unworthy of treatment, whether for age, weight, or other factors.
The sad fact is that, with a national heathcare system, there is no private system to fall back on, at least not to the average person that makes less than $1M a year. So if the public systems refuses to treat, you may as well resign your self to an early death, or even worse WISHING for an early death so as to escape the pain you have to endure.
Guess WHO will be the first ones complaining about the "unfairness"? Those that promoted such a system in the first place, of course!

"We were worth more under the law as homosexuals than we are as EX-homosexuals" over a picture of four people that, I presume, were non-practicing gays.
It went on to show how the law has turned a blind eye to blatently illegal acts committed by homosexual activist groups, and prosecuted anti-homosexual protestors, even though the protesters had acted lawfully in their actions.
Leaving aside wether or not you can ever be an "ex-gay", (that's a WHOLE different conversation!) the fact remains that under the new proposed "hate crimes" legislation, IF it is promulgated, that there will be a tiered system of justice in this country assigning extra emphasis against those that commit crimes against certain minorities just on the basis of a victim being a member of a racial or sexual minority.
We have to ask ourselves, do we REALLY want this? Some states have already gont this route, but this legislation would elevate it to the federal level, and in effect make it so that all the states will have to conform to a tiered justice system.
My own opinion is that this is one of the most insidious, anti-American, "PC" pieces of crap that has come down the pike.
To my mode of thinking, ALL violent crimes are hate crimes; assigning an extra emphasis to some crimes just because the victim happens to belong to a different race or sexual preferrance from the attacker is the epitome of anthesis of the Constitutional ideal of equality under the law.
Yes, I am aware that in practical practice, the law has not and IS not always dealt equally with all defendants, but this legislation only serves to codify this inequity, not redress it. Past injustices are not an excuse to codify injustice into the law today. Under the Constitution, the law should be color/sexual preferenceblind; lets work to make that theory the true reality.
Contact your Senators NOW, and let them know that if they vote for this type of legislation, that they will be living under it as a private citizen after the next election.

More troubleing are those that did serve...one with honor, Rep. John Murtha(D-PA), and one who, although he spent less time in service than President Bush did in training, and spent most of his frontline experiences writing himself up for paper-cut purple hearts, so as to shorten that time, is stil held up as a "war hero". The progressives point to their medals as proof that they "know what their talking about".
When John Murtha (34 year Marine Corp. veteran, bronze star/V recepient) says "it's time to pull them out", he is a voice that you should listen to....except for the fact that his appraisal of the situation and his considering the morale/condition of our troops as "broken" despite all evidence to the contrary shows him to be totally non-conversant with the reality of the condions in Iraq.
When Sen. John Kerry (4month VN vet, 3PH's) says "we should not have our soldiers terrorizing Iraqi kids and children, and , uh, women, in their homes", we should just consider the source and ignore it...except that he has used his "war record" (but STILL won't release his personell records) to such great effect that the Progressives still maintain his "hero" status affords his words weight.
Even according these people all the respect due to their prior service, that service was in a distant time and under diffferent conditions....
If the Left is so enamored of the weight of words of a bemedaled combat veteran as to what course we should take in Iraq, GO HERE for the opinion of a recently separated Sgt., with two combat tours in Iraq;who holds a Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and Conspicuous Service Cross (New York states highest combat valor award), and who has been nominated for the Medal of Honor by his leadership, and has been nominated for the Distinguished Service Cross.
A man who's actions in Fallujah, Iraq were documented in the November 22, 2004 cover story “Into the Hot Zone” by award winning journalist Michael Ware. Think he's qualified to make an opinion as a war hero? (rhetorical question...since his opinion runs counter to the Progressive agenda, no doubt they will dismiss him out of hand as yet another "brainwashed robot" of the mighty forces of HaliburtonBushCheneyCO.)
Here's just a taste (and as our Emperor, the Mighty Darth Misha 1 has stated, this is more than just a MUST read, it is a REQUIRED (upon pain of going to the Imperial Dungeon Game Room for disregardal) read.:
"As an infantryman whose boots are still caked with blood and dust from Iraq, I am at a loss to understand what Representative John Murtha (D-PA) was thinking when he recently delivered his defeatist comments about our military efforts.".......
"Rather than acknowledging the vital mission being carried out by the troops, the Democratic leadership prefers to disparage our efforts. My fellow soldiers are not appreciative of Senators Kennedy and KerryÂ’s daily attempts to uncover mistakes made by this administration as we come under fire thousands of miles from our homes. In the era of the digital satellite, these senators never consider the bigger picture, and have put us on trial for executing a war as it unfolds."
"Former administrations ignored the present danger in this region for years before 9/11, and today we in the trenches pay the price for our past inability to confront our enemies. Each day, the enemy hopes that one more ten-plus death toll inflicted against coalition forces will be the last straw of the American collective will. The actions of Kerry, Kennedy, Dean, et al.—voting against the immediate pullout of the troops and then supporting Murtha’s ignorant remarks on every television program that offers an invitation—constitute a political attack on the troops, an attack that is aiding our enemy."
("an attack that is aiding our enemy" WHAT was that definition of treason again??) (I do recall that aiding the enemy in time of war seems to be in there somewhere...)
Go read the rest.....NOW.
