Atrocities, the long and the short

"If atrocities happen over a long enough period, they do not add up to their sum. They are so much less."

Thus Jack H of Forgotten Prophets sums up his thesis for the reason that Hezbullah has garnered a lot of world support in the present conflict, in spite of their long term murderous actions.

*Sigh* Seems that the blogroll will be growing yet again...clear thinking like that has to be easily accessible for my blog rounds...

Even Asshats Can Have Children

Sorry, but my children bore me to death!
by HELEN KIRWAN-TAYLOR, Daily Mail 17:50pm 26th July 2006

I can't say which activity I dreaded more: playing Pass The Parcel at parties with a child who permanently crawled away from the action towards the priceless knick-knacks, or listening to the other mothers go on about such excitements as teething and potty-training. Mind-numbing!

While I agree somewhat, that some party activities can be quite melancholy, I think that discussing your child’s milestones is cause for excitement. These milestones are all indicators that your child is progressing in the world and is moving closer and closer towards that goal of being a productive member of society. If this woman is so “bored” with it all, I’d think she would be happy that her child is growing up- and eventually out of her nest.

While all my girlfriends were dropping important careers and occupying their afternoons with cake baking, I was begging the nanny to stay on, at least until she had read my two a bedtime story. What kind of mother hates reading bedtime stories? A bad mother, that's who, and a mother who is bored rigid by her children.

FYI- a lot of stay-at-home moms do a whole hell of a lot more with their afternoons than “cake baking”. Even if it is a “lazy afternoon” in this household, it’s cram packed with chores and activities. How does one decide what is more important, the “important career” or being there for diaper changes, illnesses, activities, cooking, cleaning, refereeing, holding, potty training, etc? As far as the bedtime ritual goes, it doesn’t matter whether you enjoy or are bored with reading your child a bedtime story, studies have proven that reading to your child helps them immensely, something to think about the next time your sitting watching CSI while the nanny is doing your job.

I know this is one of the last taboos of modern society. To admit that you, a mother of the new millennium, don't find your offspring thoroughly fascinating and enjoyable at all times is a state of affairs very few women are prepared to admit. We feel ashamed, and unfit to be mothers.

Now this is where I call the bullshit flag. “Mother of the New Millennium”? ALL the mothers that I know will freely admit that they don’t find their child/ren “thoroughly fascinating and enjoyable at all times”. Heck no! Kids are often difficult and I don’t know of any parent, on certain occasions, just wanted to tell their kid/s to leave them alone. I do NOT feel ashamed, nor unfit to be a mother. Nobody is asking that you play/coddle your children 24/7, child-centered parenting has proven narcissism, it’s a balancing act, just like the rest of your life. Sorry if having children didn’t meet your expectations.

When I brought it up at lunch yesterday, my friend June, a stay-at-home mother of three young children, admitted that 'children are mind-numbingly boring' and the act of being with them all day and night is responsible for many mental breakdowns. 'Looking after children makes women depressed,' she concluded.

No one is asking you to be completely engrossed by your children at all times, thatÂ’s impossible. Just take the time out to realize what a joy you have in your life, something some people donÂ’t have the chance to see. As far as being depressed? DonÂ’t be all fuckin 'Tom Cruise' about it, and go see someone if you think itÂ’s that bad. Asshat.

Research tells us that mothers drink the most when they have young children. Is that because talking to anyone under the age of ten requires some sort of lobotomy?

Ah, so THATÂ’S how you came up with this article! Drank yourself into delirium and now we all have to be bored and unenthusiastic about you? Fabulous. HereÂ’s a fruit-roll up to go with your sangria, hun.

Her solution was to avoid subjugating her own life to that of her children's. I'm certainly not traipsing around museums or sitting on the floor doing Lego if that's what you mean by being at home,' she explains. 'I'm loving it, but my children fit into my life and not the other way around.

Something just seems wrong with this statement. I have traipsed around museums with my three young children, I have sat on the floor and assembled legos with my children, does that mean that I am not qualified in the art of separating my life from theirs? IÂ’m sorry, ladies, but it ceased to be all about you the day you brought another life into this world.

Many of my friends — forty-something, university-educated professionals who swore that they would be normal parents — make it a policy now that 'our kids go where we go'. They drag their three-year-olds to dinner parties where the youngsters end up in front of a video all night. (I have seen children having tantrums in front of guests, and rather than send the children to their rooms, the parents send their guests home.)

Why is there a need to throw in “university-educated professionals” into the statement? Is it to inundate us with the thought that their child-rearing skills must be better than our own because they went to a university? Think again! A lot of Liberals have graduate and post-graduate educations, and I still wouldn’t want them to raise my children.

So it is drummed into mothers that if we find our children stressful or dull, it's because there's something wrong with us (but not dads, of course, who have a ready-made excuse for being out of the house all day because they 'have to go to work').

Please note: the reference to the dad being gone because he ‘has to go to work’, completely and utterly contradicts the moronic ‘new millennium mom’ comment, m’kay? Guess the stay-at-home-dad philosophy is a whole new article

And yet many women have spent years studying and then working so that we would not have to do a job as menial as full-time motherhood. I consider spending up to 30 hours a week sitting behind the wheel of a 4x4, dropping children off at play centres or school, to be a less-than-satisfactory reward for all those years of sweat.

Hectic, dull, sometimes monotonous are all words that I would use to describe my current job, NOT “menial”. Where is this ridiculous figure of “up to 30 hours” driving coming from? I’d like to know the answer to that one, because somehow I doubt that. As far as being “a less-than-satisfactory reward”, there is no reward for being a parent. Your reward is having a responsible, empathetic and productive adult on your hands in a few years. Someone that you can be proud to call “my child” and someone you’d be willing to call “my friend”. Capice?

Besides, in my view, making a child your career is a dangerous move because your marriage and sense of self can be sacrificed in the process.

Do you have the mental capacity of a fuckin’ sock puppet, or what? Millions of people over the entire world wear different hats; mom/dad, lover, friend, themselves, get a grip and quit with the ‘enslavement’ attitude.

They stopped asking me to take them to the park (how tedious) years ago. But now when I try to entertain them and say: 'Why don't we get out the Monopoly board?' they simply look at me woefully and sigh: 'Don't bother, Mum, you'll just get bored.'
How right they are.

“How tedious”, now that’s just fucked. Do you have any clue whatsoever, as to how many women are going through pain-staking fertility treatments at the moment and will NEVER get a child? They would do anything- including go through miscarriages, shots, extractions, pelvic exams- to take their child to the park. I pray that not a single woman dealing with infertility, reads this article. I also pray that one of your children never read this, either. You don’t want to play Monopoly with them? Fuck you. Fuck you with all your self-centered, self-righteous, bitter, “I’m speaking for all the moms”, please validate me, martyrdom bullshit. There is no need to end your life as soon as you create a new one. This article just oozes with the insinuation that it’s one or the other. Newsflash: you can have children and a career at the same time. Remember, you’re a “Mom of the New Millennium”..

Old Article, Same Bad Feelings

MIAMI (AP) - Thousands of illegal immigrants stayed home this week amid rumors of immigration roundups that federal officials say were unfounded, leaving some industries scrambling for workers.

Yes, and thousands of anchor babies were conceived during this time while their tax payer funded satellite tv was blaring in the background..

Len Mills, executive vice president of Associated General Contractors of South Florida, estimated at least 50 percent of workers on construction jobs in the region had not shown up for work.

The 50% that did stay was still 250% less than the percentage of workers from the “legal” populous.

"This is costing millions of dollars a day, and I don't know who is going to pay for it," he said.

Rumors of random sweeps were rampant from coast to coast Friday, prompting many immigrants to stay home from work, take their children out of school and avoid church. Their absences added to immigrants' fears, as some thought their friends and co-workers had been arrested.

DonÂ’t worry if they were in fact arrested, we all know theyÂ’ll just be cut loose again in a few days.

Mills said he believed even some legal workers were afraid.

"Everybody's edgy," said Chris Ruske, owner of a southern New Jersey nursery. "There's an awful lot of rhetoric, and you wonder what's true. You wonder if the immigration Gestapo are coming to get you."

Typical New Joysee resident. This meme is getting old, eh?

Construction and agriculture were among the industries most affected.

Yep, it takes commitment to an ESL class and learning our culture in order to get those pesky out-of-reach blue collar jobs.

Katie A. Edwards, executive director of Florida's Dade County Farm Bureau, said nearly a third of farmworkers did not come to the fields this week.

Hence, the popularity of the “distressed” jean this season, uses less cotton.

Mari Ramos, a Peruvian nanny whose tourist visa ran out in 2003, listened when friends warned her not to take public transportation or risk arrest.

"That's when I became nervous. I stopped going to my night job," the 36-year-old Miami woman said.

IÂ’m sure she was as nervous to go to her night job as a liberal is to the Bell Curve.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Dean Boyd said the agency has received hundreds of calls about immigration raids in recent days. Such rumors are typical after a raid like the one last week in which more than 1,000 employees of pallet manufacturer IFCO were arrested at more than 40 company sites nationwide, he said.

"However, we don't conduct random sweeps," he said. "All our arrests are the result of investigations, evidence and intelligence."

Methinks the word “intelligence” is quite oxymoronic when it comes to INS or ICE.

ICE officials acknowledged they have stepped up arrests under their "Operation Phoenix," an existing program to find and deport fugitive illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds.

Uh, I didnÂ’t see that happen to the fellow in court who was pulled over for the third time with no insurance, license, registration, etc. You know, the pesky things us AMERICANS have to have in order to drive our vehicles in a manner consistent with the law.

Many wondered whether the rumors would deter people from national immigration protests planned for Monday.

Ah, THOSE protests. The ones where they were going to decimate retailers by boycotting? The ones that retailers noted a 4.6% drop in profits and a close to a 70% drop in shoplifting rates in some areas?

The National Immigration Law Center called on organizations nationwide to sign a petition urging ICE to assure the public it won't make any immigration arrests during the protests.

Last time I checked, first Amendment rights only applied to US CITIZENS, please, arrest away.

The agency said its policy is not to discuss potential operations. "ICE will continue to operate as it does every day of the year," Boyd said.

The rumors affected a wide variety of businesses. In New Jersey and New York, day-laborer gathering sites drew only a trickle of workers.

These poor people had to worry about which gas station to loiter for day labor while we are only concerned about whether the movie theater we frequent has Fatkins approved popcorn?!?! Well, woe is me.

"It is the ugliest of rumors because it has intimidated people who are already afraid. They are living in the shadows of society, wondering who is going to knock on the door," said the Rev. Allan Ramirez, pastor of the Brookville Dutch Reform Church in Long Island, N.Y.

Afraid? Are you fuckinÂ’ serious? Ask the LND nurses at the ER in Yuma, AZ if they are AFRAID! Certainly not afraid to strut in, without insurance, without the ability to speak English, without a concern for the fact that our president is gargling FoxÂ’s testicles at the moment, and squat out an anchor baby.

Elias Bermudez, an activist and talk show host for a Spanish-language radio station in Phoenix, said many believe they are being punished for participating in recent protests in favor of legalizing the status of many illegal immigrants.

Suuuuuurrrrre. The illegals that work at a well-known Phoenix resort are really feeling harsh retribution while collect their tips, paychecks with fraudulent SS numbers and pick up their 6 kids from government funded daycare that is too overcrowded for MY children to attend.

In the rural town of Homestead, Fla., more than a dozen parents lined up early to take their kids out of Redondo Elementary School on Wednesday for fear of a raid, said activist Jonathan Fried, who heads the nonprofit "We Count!"

What are the odds that theyÂ’re all anchor babies? Hmmm? Anyone? Bueller.. Bueller..

"It's caused tremendous fear in our community, like I've never seen before," Fried said.

Two words: Emotional Scarring- the gift that keeps on giving. DonÂ’t worry sweetie, itÂ’s Florida, they only deport 7 year old boys back to communist countries.

On Friday, ICE announced the arrests of 106 illegal immigrant fugitives and 19 immigration status violators throughout the Midwest over the last 10 days. Of those, 46 had criminal records, according to the department. Earlier this week, ICE announced the arrest of 183 fugitives in Florida alone.

Shhh.. donÂ’t tell anyone the following statistics: the criminal alien populous is the largest growing segment in the prison system. Of the 35,000 illegals that were released, instead of deported, 11,000 went on to commit further crimes. In 2001, thanks to a decision by the Supreme Court, the INS was forced to release into our society over 3,000 criminal aliens (who collectively had been convicted of 125 homicides, 387 sex offenses, and 772 assault charges)[from the Bereau of Justice Statistics] Yes, please take the time to say thank you to our Black Robes for that last one.

The American Immigration Lawyers Association said Friday it believes some of the concerns may have been fueled by confusion over a widespread fugitive roundup by the U.S. Marshals Service. That roundup lead to more than 9,000 arrests of people wanted for a number of crimes, and ICE assisted in the effort but it said most of those detained were U.S. citizens

See, our offensiveness is equal opportunity!

Moderates Drop Trou...again

House GOP pressing vote on minimum wage

By ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer

House Republican leaders, giving in to political reality, plan a vote to raise the $5.15 minimum wage before leaving Washington this weekend for a five-week recess.

Let's hope that we can make your next recess a bit longer..how 'bout forever?

"Whether people like it or not, we need to go ahead with it," said Rep. Mike Castle, R-Del., who supports the idea. "There's a general agreement among Republicans (opposing the raise) that `maybe we don't like it much, but we need to move forward with it just for political reasons.'"

What people are you referring to, you spineless jellyfish? Delaware are you paying attention? Grow a pair and enough with this go-along to get-along business. The citizens YOU represent voted for somebody THEY thought would represent THEIR views. Rep. Castle, take a look at your oath of office. I suspect it just might say something about bearing true faith and allegiance to those that have put you in a position of trust. You are not there to make the other side of the aisle happy.

The No. 3 House GOP leader, Majority Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri, said the plan was to have a vote before week's end. But Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said Republicans leaders were working to pass the increase but that "no decisions have been made."

It was a decade ago, during the hotly contested campaign year of 1996, that Congress voted to increase the minimum wage. A person working 40 hours per week at minimum wage makes $10,700, which is below the poverty line for workers with families.

WOW...color me surprised. It's a dead issue until the Season of Stooopid™. How nice of you to drop trou' and sound EXACTLY like the Massachusetts Orca, groveling to a few criminally stupid voters. Let's raise the minimum wage so EVERYBODY is ABOVE average. If you don't get it...lookup the term PARADOX. That tired meme wore out a long time ago.

Democrats have made increasing the wage a pillar of their campaign platform and are pushing to raise the wage to $7.25 per hour over two years. In June, the Republican-controlled

Senate refused to raise the minimum wage, rejecting a proposal from Democrats.

The chairman of the House Education and the Workforce Committee said the GOP would embrace the increase to $7.25 per hour and probably attach a proposal passed last year that would make it easier for small business to band together and buy health insurance plans for employees at a lower cost. Rep. Howard McKeon (news, bio, voting record), R-Calif., said the minimum wage bill probably will not include tax cuts such as a repeal of the estate tax.

OK..Lesson Time...Have a seat on the rock that you just slithered from beneath. I'm a business owner. It's well established, growing slow but steady. My current revenue stream permits employing 100 people with wages consistent with their duties and responsibilities. Let's keep this simple and figure the average hourly rate of my workers is $6.50. Now pay attention here the math is tricky. 100 workers X $6.50/hr X 40 hours/wk = $26,000/wk in wages. Enter stage left....political sell-outs, otherwise known as moderate Republicans. Let's make EVERYBODY happy and raise the minimum wage $2.10 / hour. This in turn will force me to increase my average wage by an equal amount, otherwise I can kiss ALL my workers goodbye. Sooooo.....working backward, my "new and improved" minimum wage is now $8.60/hr. I have already trimmed my revenue stream to allow maintenance of equipment, upgrades to more efficient equipment, competitive benefits for the workers a gazillion other costs of doing busines and hopefully enough left over to pay myself decently. New payroll figure is $34,400/week. For those of us actually PAYING the bills, it's pretty clear we just went $8400 over the weekly budget. What to do, I don't anywhere else to take this new money from unless I can figure out how to make my colon an ATM. The only thing I CAN do is LAYOFF some of my workers...24.4 to be exact. Thank you Mister Congressman, I just lost 25% of my workforce. In turn this means a 25% drop in my productivity and profit.

How do you feel NOW? Butt-Wipe. Oh you aren't out of the woods yet...guess who I give the Ax to? The lowest skilled and experienced part of my staff, because those that I keep are going to be working their butts off to make up the loss. Now what happens to the workers I layoff? Yup, UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS !!!!! How are YOU going to pay that increase ya' bastich? You are the annointed ones that have the power to confiscate the wealth of those you represent. Survey Sezzz- RAISE TAXES (on those that still have jobs).

Congratulations, you just came up with the Perfect Plan™. Everybody gets screwed. Except the nitwits that legislated the Perfect Plan, they'll get their jobs back (likely) blowing smoke up the asses of their constituents.

It was not clear what other potential add-ons might soothe unhappy lawmakers and GOP opponents of a wage increase such as the small business lobby.

Keep puffing those sphincters...don't forget to breathe once in awhile though.

House Democrats cried foul on Thursday, saying Republicans planned to add "poison pills" for their business allies. Many Democrats oppose the small business health insurance legislation because it would overrule state laws requiring coverage for procedures such as diabetes care and cancer screenings.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California demanded a vote on a bill that would just increase the minimum wage. She spoke out against "the usual Republican poison pills of attaching tax cuts for the wealthy or other so-called sweeteners for the Republican special interests."

Betcha feel better now, eh Mikey? Teddy is done and now Nancy sidles up to your backside and guess what she is wearing for fashion accessories? When Will They Ever Learn *cue music*...you can never, ever, ever give the left enough to make them like you. Why not focus on you know, doing the right thing, for just once.

Inflation has eroded the minimum wage's buying power to the lowest level in about 50 years. Yet lawmakers have won cost-of-living wage increases totaling about $35,000 over that time. So House GOP leaders are bowing to the inevitable on the increase.

Forty-eight Republicans, many of them moderates or representing districts with large working-class populations, wrote Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., requesting a vote this week on an increase.

"It is time for Congress to take responsible action to raise the minimum wage and ensure our hardworking constituents can provide for their families," said the letter, drafted by Reps.

Steven LaTourette, R-Ohio, and Frank LoBiondo, R-N.J.

1, 2, 3, breathe and a lick......ummm it looks like chocolate but tastes like pudding?

Conservatives responded with a letter signed by 31 Republicans asking that no vote be held.

Notice the literary "english" here. Fixate the sentence on Conservatives (those eeeevilll doers) and point out they were also republicans almost as an aside. Let me write this for you properly.

31 Republicans adhering to consevative principles signed a letter asking that no vote be held.

No, I didn't think you would like my version...it's more accurate and that doesn't fit your agenda.

"Quickly increased labor costs unrelated to business conditions will encourage or force employers to fire employees, reduce working hours for existing employees, and/or postpone plans to hire additional employees," they wrote.

I told you so, when an alleged "writer" prefaces anything as Conservative, expect Real Scary Bullshit to follow.

After a private meeting Thursday morning of House Republicans, many lawmakers said they believed the wage increase would advance when Congress returns in September.

"There seems to be a consensus that we'll do it after the break," said Rep. Tim Johnson, R-Ill.

Because the sheep will buy it and the rest won't notice the screwing they got, until after we get our jobs back. Not likely....You BUSTED Timmy !!!!!!

But GOP leaders such as Boehner believe that if the vote is to happen, it makes political sense to do it now, otherwise Democrats could hammer Republicans on the issue during the summer break.

Brother Boehner steps in to give the rest of the moderate's colons a break. How kind, batter up...from the Great State of Jawja..Cynthia McKinney....enjoy it pal you really earned it.

NYPD Shuffle

With a humble thanks to site owner, I'll take a swing over here at some things that just PISS ME OFF !!!!

Hat Tip to my Buddy- Sig 94 over at the Rottie Empire, who provided me this gem of an article.

Pimping behind a shield.

Headline: Hip Hop Cop Dishes on J. Lo's Night in Jail.

Hey every LEO faces retirement and what to do in it's aftermath? Most find themselves pretty young to sit back in the rocking chair, and more likely with a pension that won't support your dog food bill. I refuse to slag anyone that's been on-the-job for setting themselves up nicely to transition to life as a civilian, but there IS a line. I read this three times just to avoid jumping to conclusions, being the nasty bastid I is.

Nope, it didn't help. The first kiss-and-tell hint was about what he did for poor widdle J. Lo. Way to go Detective, you just committed a misdemeanor and brag about it. Sounds like Interfering with an Officer to me. But that's just me....

Let's get the real story and lesson of the day.

Get lined up with a nice specialized assignment, one that allows you frequent access to folks with demonstrable unsavory habits and associates. Play nicee-nicee and tweak the justice system here and there, not enough to get really noticed, but enough to "help" your buddies out.

Hey, I didn't make this up, the guy is admitting to it freely and publishing it.

Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock- Hey whadda ya know, I got 20 years in !!!!

Pull the plug, take the retirement and badda-bing instant success with your own Security biz. Now, I wouldn't resort to accusations, but it would be convenient to have some friends still on the inside to ummmm....consult with now and then, would it? Sure would go a long way towards promoting your business.

Knock yourself out Parker and enjoy the big $$, nevermind that bit of tarnish on the shield.

NYT's "Truth to Power", or collaborators?

Lifted this from Michelle Malkin; I thought it expressed my feeling towards the New York Times perfectly:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I had a long, angry, post providing examples of why I believe the NYT's to be, in some cases, actively working against the security of the United States, but just as I was about to hit the "post" button, my screen blinked and it was all gone.....maybe someone up there was trying to tell me I had gone overboard?

Let it suffice to say: New York Times; you have every right to post whatever you wish to, that is what having a free press is all about, BUT with that right comes responsibility. I suggest that you look up the definition of that word, as you've not demonstrated much of it lately.

GRRRR

Have the Brits lost their spine?!? When a maggot like Omar Brooks can freely spew his hate-filled bile in open forums and belittle the victims of terrorism as he's doing it, things have gone way too far across the big briny.

He's told an audience of teenagers and young families that "he did not want to go to Allah while sleeping in his bed “like an old woman”. Instead, he said: “I want to be blown into pieces with my hands in one place and my feet in another.”

Come over here, Omar, I know plenty of people that would be more than happy assisting you in achieving that goal. Do you mind if we tie you to a hog first ?, gives a little more movement to the procedings and makes the filming ever so much more lively.
