Quote of the Day
"My choices early in life were either to be a piano player in a whore house or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference. " --

Quote of the Day
"There is no doubt in my mind that millions of lives could have been saved if the people had not been "brainwashed" about gun ownership and they had been well armed. Hitler's thugs and goons were not very brave when confronted by a gun. Gun haters always want to forget the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, which is a perfect example of how a ragtag, half starved group of Jews took up 10 handguns and made asses out of the Nazi's." —
Theodore Haas
(former prisoner of the infamous Dachau prisoner concentration camp)

One problem is that much of the German population was more than willing to help the Nazis out. One finding from recent scholarship is that the Nazi's secret police really didn't have much of a presence in many areas and relied on average people to come forward as informers. If these people had had more guns, they may have gone out and shot the Marxists, Jew, Gypsies, and homosexuals themselves before the Nazis had a chance to do it. Of course you're main idea is right. If you want to fight a guerrilla war against the government, guns come in handy. Hunting rifes are then undoubtedly more useful that all these pistols that the NRA gets so excited about. But if such an action is ever to be possible, there needs to be some sort of civic organization. A population with eyes glued to the TV everynight isn't going to do anything guns or no guns. There might be some hope if people identified more strongly with civic organizations--their local union, religious organization, or PTA--in other words, if people were able to organize their communities. Without this, you just end up with people killing each other willy-nilly providing a wonderful justification for the federal government to clamp down and deny basic rights.

Karlo...there are just a few flaws in your reasoning.
The fact is that they only had 10 HANDGUNS in the Warsa Ghetto, yet they managed to hold off a company sized unit off for over a week with just those weapons. The FACT is that ANY weapon in determined hands CAN be a "great equalizer".
You're also forgetting that the reason for the 2ND Amendment was to be able to PREVENT a dictatorial government from running roughshod over the rights of the people.
The more arms that are present prevents people "killing each other willy nilly" as is proved by the fact that in EVERY area where restrictions on gun ownership and carry were relaxed; there was a corrosponding DROP in ALL crimes, including gun crimes. In those areas that tighten restrictions; ALL crime rises.
The naivete of the attitude that too many people bearing arms will bring down the heavy hand of government to repeal their rights flies in the face of history; the FIRST action of EVERY Despot in the 20th century was to disarm the populace, THEN take any rights they may have had prior to the takeover.
There ARE many groups to rally behind in the case of a needed resistance to government tyrany. They don't advertise themselves too openly, as the time is not yet at hand to do so,but they are prepared to do what is necessary when the time comes.
I hope that you do not become part of the problem, but become part of the solution.
BTW Karlo, I would really appreciate it if you would make separate paraghraphs; it's really difficult to read those solid blocks of yours.
